I’ve been out of work for about 2yrs and am now trying to get back in. My background is in the IT sector and as you can imagine it’s very competitive. I was off due to ill health, but have not put this down as my reason, I feel the absence is going against me and have not had much luck with being invited to interviews, which I can kind off understand when you are being compared with those who are current. Can someone please advice me what to due as this is starting to get me down now.

Hi, yes I am new to this forum.
My daughter is being royally screwed by the system, so I am looking for definitive answers.
I am looking for where I can find the latest official rules for JSA, as used by those working in the system. There are so many rumours and myths that the officials can say whatever they want and get away with it.
So, does any one know where an online 'handbook' is.
Cheers

Hi. I have gained an nvq 2 in health and social care through working with adults with learning disabilities. I have always wanted to work with children though. Are my qualifications transferable or will i need to study some other course? i am not working at the moment as i found that i paid more out in childcare (i have 4 children) than i actually earned. My friend that works in a nursery also has an nvq 2 in health and social care but i am unsure if it makes a difference how you got it ie, working with adults or children. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ;)

Hey all.

Haven't posted on here in over a year.

I'm really down about my future.

I had a weekend in a factory for over two years but was sacked for gross misconduct(something of nothing but in the company's eyes a big offence)

Obviously that's not good for potential job opportunities :(

The thing about it is, i was going to leave anyway, due to transports difficulties but obv i didn't want to go out this way.

Even when i was working there, i was on the lookout for a mon-fri job and have been for the best part of 18 months now but with little joy - had a few weeks work via agency's here and there but nothing long-term.

I'm now pretty much depressed and i don't use that word lightly...i just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel...my self-esteem is at an all time low and hence i never want to leave the house...i haven't been out clubbing in about 6 months that's how bad it is...for a 23 year old that's obviously not right.

I know alot of people are out of work and the ecomony is a dire state but has anyone any advice for me to find work?? i'd do any kind of work tbh.

Advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi readers,
Lost my job again! I lost my job in March 2009 - both my g'f and I were made redundant after I told our boss that I am hiv+. Yeah, time for an Employment Tribunal - that's coming up in the last week of September and I can't wait.
I felt very unfairly treated and it affected me badly. I went off the rails... drink, drugs, crashed my car, went mental, (almost) lost my partner. So 2009 went by without me hardly noticing it.
2010 I did a bit of temporary work in January and February and managed to land a new job in March. I hated it immediately and should have started looking for a job the first day I started. I'm a Management Accountant and I could see their accounts were in a real mess - I tried to sort them out but changing the culture in a business is like trying to change the culture of a country - impossible, don't even try. The staff they had in place didn't like being told where they were going wrong and I lasted four months before they got sick of me trying to do things correctly.
So I'm back on the pile and forums have helped me a lot in the past so I thought I'd join up. I hope I can stay for a while, get some encouragement and join in with you all.
See you on the boards

Dear Everyone!

I need some help. I've finished my studies in the UK and got back to my country (Hungary) - which was a wrong decision after all. Because here is nothing to do with PRINCE2. However I'm really passionate about this method.
I would like to use my knowledge and experience in any way but all I get back is a rejection or no reply.

I would be thankful for any advice on my CV.

Thank you and
Best Regards,

I work for a company that provides online job search support to professionals - currently delivered in conjunction with Jobcentre Plus. We've learned a lot from our members about what tools can best aid a jobseeker and it seems the most important thing is that these can be completely personalised.

As such, we're looking to develop a new, completely customisable online product (think BBC/iGoogle) - a page which features a number of job hunting tools streamed straight to you and featuring only relevant information.

If you had such a tool, what would you want it to feature? What kind of information would you like to have at your fingertips when job hunting? In fact, would such a thing be beneficial at all, or are there other ways you prefer to manage your job search?

Any feedback will be gratefully received, I'm really fascinated to hear more about what tools can provide real benefits...

I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Hi. I've been working in a hotel as a receptionist for 3 years. However, the reason my employer hired me, was because of my computer skills. And even though I did spent _most_ of my time at the reception, part of the time I spent maintaining computers (reinstalling windows/software, upgrading hardware on PCs, simple adsl router configurations, doing basic logos for the boss, created an intranet website for the company and did some promoting of his existing external websites and many other IT related things). Now that I finished my undergraduate degree in Computer Networks, I'd like to get an IT job (hopefully in networks or programming). At the moment, I am puzzled as to what should I write on my cv as my occupation/duties for the beforementioned 3 years. Should I mention my handling of computers, and if yes, how best would I do that?

P.S. I should probably also mention that those 3 years is the only work experience I have.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and seeking career advice. I'll start a new thread for advice though.

I'm a graduate of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (1992), management studies (1994) and took Engineering Council part 2 exams in Quality and Reliability Engineering, Communications Engineering, Management (1999).
From 1994-2001 I was successful in the telecomms industry, travelled much of Europe working only with blue chip clients for blue chip fees. In 2001 the industry crashed.

Desperate for any work at all, I made the mistake of placing my career in the hands of agencies and have only been picking up bits and pieces of electrical work since then, which I'm unsuited to. It generally involves working stupid hours in appalling conditions for the widest of people for a few months, then having no work for a period. I loathe every minute of it. I had a stint as a manager at an oil company.

I'm eager to return to the telecomms industry.
I'm not particularly good at the self-promotion thing and sick of the sight of my CV and writing about myself.

My career search strategy isn't working, in fact I'm no longer sure I have one. They stopped calling ages ago. I dial my telephone periodically to make sure it's not disconnected.

There are no executive jobclubs or mutual support agencies around these parts and the Jobcentre seems to have turned into a benefits centre, so a little cut off from networking opportunities. Lets not get started on the user interface of the Jobcentre's new direct.gov site.

If only the fairy jobmother would do all the promotion for me!

Well, enough of my moaning, hope we can provide mutual assistance.

PS: sorry for my part in developing call centre technologies.
