Hi
Needs some advice to a possible career change (due to likely redundancy?) Firstly, I'm 40 years old. Look and feel a lot younger! but that's a different story!! I have always been interested in financial topics, investments, savings etc. etc. My mental arithmatic is second to no one and have always been savvy with regards to financial planning, investments savings and when buying things etc. So some sort of career in the above would I feel not only interest me but I feel I would be very good at. However, would be very grateful for some advice from someone(s) knowledgeable in these careers, as firstly I feel my age could be my first stumbling block and secondly I cannot find any local colleges that do any sort of course in these subjects. Thankyou in advance for any helpful comments and advice |

Hi
To be a paraplanner/ financial advisor you need 2 things - a recognised qualification, and CAS Status (Competent Advisor Status). CeFA, the Certificate for Financial Advisors is run by the IFS, has 4 exams (levels) and costs 135 per exam. To get CAS status you need to join a company or firm who will 'sign you off' as competent. This cannot be bought. Remember also that Financial Advising is, basically, a sales job. Roles are heavily targeted, although you do need to concentrate on giving ethical advice (Treating Customers Fairly). A background in sales would therefore be good if you were going into Financial advisor roles. With regards to your age that should not be a problem at all. Its your ability to give the right advice, and getting the sales which count! Good luck!!!! |
