Hello,
I am an Associate Consultant at a well placed firm. I am going for an interview at an even better organization. The position that I expect to get from there is Senior Associate which is one up of the position that I have right now. The problem is that through my sources, I have come to know that Senior Associate gets approximately the same package that I am getting right now.My question is what should I do to get a position of Assistant Manager, which is one position up than Senior Associate? What should be my stance? How should I convince them that I am good enough to be an A.M.? All at the same time I want to move out of my current job. How should I present myself so that I dont sound desperate and yet can ask for the AM position? |

It's all about what you can do for the role - the more senior, the more responsibility so you have to show you have what it takes to do the job. Go prepared with a proposal, outlining your key skills and what you think you can bring to the job. It's just like a pitch really.

Also, more senior roles tend to look heavily at personal qualities of the candidate as much as the experience they have - so go in confident (not arrogant). You're not asking about the job - you are there to tell them why they should give it to you.

Yes I also think that you must talk them directly that what position they are offering you. You have to prove your importance that you can do justice with your role.

I too feel it is better to speak directly rather than confusing yourself. show that you are capable of that role.
