I have just been made an offer with a new company and I have made a good impression with them so far through the interview and hiring process. I would like to get my current manager hired at the new firm (our current company is not a good place to be) so I mentioned that I had a colleague referral.
The hiring manager at the new company was very receptive to having me forward my manager's resume to their HR and the HR rep I've been working with was also very positive about getting it. However, I haven't heard anything more and neither has my manager. So the question is: How much follow up on my part is prudent in this situation? I want to do right by my old boss, but I don't want to be obnoxious right out the gate with my new company either. Thanks for any suggestions! |

I would follow up with HR once or twice, but the very best thing you can do is keep your eyes open for specific roles within the company that your boss would excel at, and then hand a copy of his resume directly to the hiring manager for that position.
Make your referral a casual thing, and tell the manager you used to work for this fellow, and he is an "A Player" that they should definitely consider. If you make it casual and non-pushy, you can generate some interest without becoming an irritant. HR will call whomever the hiring manager tells them to call in most cases. The way to encourage response from HR is to generate demand from the hiring managers. 8) Please let us know how this one turns out. John
