// ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

I have worked as a software developer with several small companies on a contract basis, one such company was Yet Another Company, a graphics design company based in Some City. They approached myself with a request for some software that they could sell to their clients as a software and hardware package. The initial brief was that the software had to be adaptable, easy to use and have a Graphical User Interface (GUI), but above all had to be reliable. I produced the software for them in a short time frame and they were immensly pleased with the results, so much that they offered me a job which unfortunately I had to decline due to other commitments.

I manage my own company Internet Solutions, an Information Technolgy Solutions business. Dealing with clients Network Management, Consultancy, Security & Website Design services for small to medium sized businesses and individuals. A total no on every count as far as I'm concerned. Why waste all that space on your address. Hate the heading profile and the content of yours is banal. Too much detail on the qualifications and the jobs read like your original person specfification. Plus you use the first person "I". I don't want to discourage you but if you had read every word of our copious free advice sections about CV writing you would have produced something 500% better than this. I would scrap it completely and start again. Sorry. But it would have been a dull effort in 1995. Today it is simply useless. Expand those key skills into something that speaks to the reader and reads true. Take out the horoscopic bits about what sort of a thinker you are and make it feel real

Your resume is not looking very professional. Write your name, contact information and a good career objective. Instead of writing your key skills write your educational details and training details below the objective. Then add your work experience. List down your technical skills and then interpersonal skills. If you want to write about your hobbies then you should list it down using bullets. Avoid the use of "I" and unnecessary long sentences.

If it's form any civilised country DO NOT write a "career objective". That's only fit for young Americans who don't know any better and follow a fairly unimaginative and pushy fixed format. More professional Americans write a proper, British style CV, which is the best in the world by a very long margin

Do not make a big thing of your street address. Phone and email are the only things that are important contact-wise.

Do not list your key skills in a disembodied way, except, again, for daft young Americans.

Do not use one liners to describe your professional assets or your work experience. Everything the reader encounters must have the ring of truth about it; all claims must be immediately corroborated with evidence, no matter how brief or general.

What truly works is telling descriptions of the strategic and practical aspects of the job you claim to be able to do and the contribution you claim to be able to make. That's what they care about, not your objectives, nor you idea of how great you are, nore really your hobbies unless they shed light on an interesting turn of mind or social commitment.

Seven or eight years ago we wrote loads of advice articles for this site and they're still good today. You should read them because they will expand your idea of how to apply for jobs.

Hi Fusion 2000, I think you have put a lot of effort into your CV and for that you should be commended rather than criticised. My style of leadership is never to criticise and just offer ideas for improvement so that is what I will do here.

I was quite taken aback by some of the responses to your request for feedback and the fact that you put your work out there for us all to see, should at least have been acknowledged and not shot down. That is just my humble opinion for what it is worth.

If you could pm me that CV, I will give you an honest critique on it and some suggestions as to how you would enhance it. What would be helpful also is if you include a link to the job you are applying for because it needs to be a targetted CV.

I DO NOT run a CV writing service but have 10 years career guidance experience so my advice is FREE, for nothing and I expect nothing in return. I am happy to help anyone who asks in the hope that someday when I need a bit of help then others will do likewise.

trishbiz@live.co.uk is my email and look forward to helping you with this. Great effort though.

All the best

Trish
