Your CAPE will get you the job by ©2003 by Jeff Rowe

Many of our super heroes such as Superman/Woman, Batman and Robin, and Captain Marvel wore capes.  The cape was a symbol meaning power and respect.  The cape represented the super heroes ability to accomplish the difficult or even what seemed impossible.

When you are out of work and looking for employment you can empower yourself by putting on and using your CAPE.

There is no magic in finding employment, however if you use your CAPE, you will greatly increase your chances of getting that job.

C = Commitment

A = Attitude

P = Persistence

E = Effort

Commitment

Making a commitment is a promise you make to do everything necessary to find employment.  How much time do you spend each day actively looking for employment?

You must put in a minimum of 4 hours a day each and every day.

Attitude

There are three kinds of people in this world:

-Those who make things happen
-Those who watch things happen
-Those who wonder what happened

Which one are you?

Your attitude is how you choose to interpret your view of the world.  It’s a mental outlook or a state of mind.  Maintaining a good attitude will be “key” to ensuring you don’t get depressed, feeling hopeless or go into despair.

You control your attitude.  As soon as you start talking negatively, immediately, change your thinking.  A positive attitude is the foundation of motivation.  Motivation is the movement towards getting what you want (a need or desire).  With a good attitude, you will be compelled to move towards your goals because you believe it is possible.  When you have a negative attitude, the goal seems unachievable.

Persistence

The job search is difficult. You will get more “No’s” than “Yeses.”   Persistence is a determination to continue to do something no matter how difficult it is or how many obstacles are in your way.  Persistence is putting in long hours in the job search when you feel tired, frustrated and want to give up and yet, you say to yourself, “No” I will continue on anyway.

Effort

Effort is another word for work.  It is putting in the time, energy and the necessary activity to go step by step from where you are to where you want to eventually end up.  It is the conscious exertion of power to do something.   It takes effort to get up early, plan your day and do that which you have planned. Effort is the overcoming of inertia (going from a resting position to actively doing something).

Summary

In summary, you can have the perfect resume, but if you are not committed, don’t have the right attitude, not willing to persist when the going gets tough and are lazy rather than applying continual effort, what good is the perfect resume?

Using your CAPE or not using it will be the difference in getting the job or not getting it.
