Keeping your job by Scott Boyd

On the whole, finding and getting your ideal job is half the battle, but how do you live up to the high expectations of your employer (remember, you are the all-singing, all-dancing king of the world – you told them so at the interview).

Firstly, refer back to the article on how to gain experience. This will also keep your boss happy!

A few other pointers:

  • Don’t turn up for work drunk.

  • Try not to insult the customers.

  • Don’t drink during working hours.

  • Try not to hit on pretty customers / colleagues in front of the boss.

  • Don’t keep a hip flask full of whisky in your desk drawer.

  • Try not to throw things at the customers (unless they throw things first – then it’s a free for all).

  • Don’t use “I was drunk last night and slept in” as an excuse for being late.  Even if you think your boss will appreciate your honesty, you'll probably just get sacked!

  • Try not to blame the smell of alcohol in the office on the customers or clients (by all means implicate your colleagues though).

  • Don’t over indulge at the office party and tell your boss that he’s a, “fecking worthless son of a b***h”.

These are based on personal experience. :)

Good Luck!

Regards

Scott Boyd - Webmaster and Founder - Jobseekers Advice
