Working in Scotland - some information and advice by Scott Boyd
About Scotland Scotland is a popular destination for those taking time out to travel around Europe and for those looking to relocate within the UK.
With an unique history, a friendly culture, amazing landscapes, cosmopolitan cities and a great night life, Scotland is one of the most loved nations in Europe.
Scotland is also home to some of the top Universities in the UK and many of it's major cities are popular student destinations.
OK, the weather sucks, but we can't have it all!
Finding a job in Scotland Most UK national recruitment agencies have offices in Scotland and there are also Scottish only recruitment agencies.
All the major cities have numerous recruitment agencies, in fact some may indeed have too many! Be prepared to go to many interviews and send out many CVs before you find work!
Working in Scotland Scotland follows the same legislations as the UK as a whole, but also has some national initiatives started by the administrative body of the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Executive.
"In April 2002, the Scottish Executive launched Careers Scotland, the UK's first all age guidance service" - Scottish Executive
The website can be found at www.careers-scotland.org.uk.
"Careers Scotland provides information, advice and guidance on training and employment opportunities to people of any age across Scotland, and its services can be accessed via its offices throughout Scotland or via its website." - Scottish Executive
In addition, the Scottish Executives own website (www.scotland.gov.uk) is a source of great information, in particular the Enterprise and Lifelong Learning department.
Living in Scotland Some of the laws and regulations differ in Scotland from the rest of the UK.
For example, the Scottish Housing law system operates in a different way and Pub Licensing laws are different too. If you are considering moving to Scotland, then you should make sure that you check out Scottish specific information and not UK general information.
The Scottish Executives site (above) would be a good place to start.
Take it all in! Scotland is a popular tourist destination, so there are plenty of things to see and to do. Just make sure that you don't spend too much time working and take a break once in a while!
Good Luck! Regards Scott Boyd - Webmaster and Founder - Jobseekers Advice
